CES 730 – Ophthalmology Elective

This course is designed to provide a broad initial exposure to the field of ophthalmology for any students, regardless of their future career goals. Students will spend time with multiple faculty members, as well as residents. The course goal is for students to understand the scope of ophthalmology with exposure to diagnosis, pathogenesis, and management (medical and surgical) of a variety of ophthalmic disorders, in the hopes of inspiring them to further explore the specialty. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in all teaching activities of the Department, including resident lectures, Grand Rounds, etc.

This course is designed to provide a broad experience in ophthalmology for any students, regardless of their future career goals. Students will spend time with all faculty members, as well as some residents. The course goal is for students to understand the diagnosis, pathogenesis and management of a variety of ophthalmic disorders, as well as become proficient in the use of a direct ophthalmoscope. Depending on the students’ goals, the rotation schedule can be modified to accommodate particular interests, e.g., more neuro-ophthalmology for students planning a career in neurology or neurosurgery. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in all teaching activities of the department, including resident lectures, fluorescein angiography conferences, Grand Rounds, etc. Students considering a career in Ophthalmology should request a rotation in July-October due to the early Ophthalmology match.
